What the tools can answer
RankParse documents get_backlinks, get_referring_domains, get_domain_authority, get_competitor_gap and get_link_audit for link research. Those tools do not supply Ahrefs DR, a market-wide keyword database or Ahrefs historical reports. Ahrefs' enabled catalog and report limits determine which equivalent research steps an agent can perform.
RankParse backlink tools read a periodic snapshot. The documented release is January–March 2026; inspect the active date in data information and returned dataset fields. Sorting by recent orders rows within that snapshot; it does not trigger a live crawl.

First task: one bounded backlink sample
Follow the MCP setup guide first. Claude/ChatGPT web use the OAuth URL below; developer clients use the separate API-key route. These are documented connection routes, not a claim that every client was tested end to end.

Run the same bounded research question through Ahrefs only after confirming its available tools and row limits. Record actual calls, returned rows, data dates, status and balance changes. Do not assume one provider's tool maps to one call on the other. RankParse authority is not Ahrefs DR, and the same row ceiling does not establish the same backlink coverage. Catalog and permission boundaries
The default RankParse OAuth catalog is read-only and excludes Search Console, Ads, rank tracking and sending tools. The API-key catalog contains 80 registered tools including four unavailable placeholders; some integrations can write or send and need account connections and permissions. Its stored own-account ranking snapshots are not live SERP checks. Review the discovered tool list and permissions before granting access. Do not assume Ahrefs has the same read/write scope; inspect its current catalog and authorization screen.
When to stay with Ahrefs MCP
Retain Ahrefs when the agent's task needs its data rather than a snapshot sample:
- You need the Ahrefs index, proprietary metrics or supported keyword research reports.
- You already have an eligible subscription and its included MCP usage fits the planned task.
- You need fresher link research or history than the active RankParse dataset supports.

Is RankParse MCP free?
The documented offer has no separate connector subscription and starts with 100 introductory credits. Billable data tools consume credits. Your AI client or model may have separate charges and connector eligibility requirements.
Do both RankParse routes expose 80 usable tools?
No. The OAuth route has 25 read-only tools by default. The API-key route registers 80, including four placeholders; integrations require the relevant connections and permissions. Some tools can write or send.
Was this workflow tested against both servers?
No. This is a documentation comparison with illustrative credit arithmetic. A real matched run must log tool arguments, results, data dates and account usage before claiming observed cost or performance.
Does MCP provide real-time backlinks?
